Thank you!

We appreciate your interest in sharing about The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond. Over the last 40+ years, we’ve learned a lot about what it means to share about our work.

We encourage folks to develop relationships with anti-racist organizers in our network, and to contact the National office before and during the development of any media. We recognize that this challenges the fast-paced, urgent nature of media. Our work is rooted in challenging the urgent nature of capitalism, and growing intentional, meaningful relationships and partnerships.

A few key facts:

  • The People’s Institute For Survival & Beyond is a non-profit collective of multicultural, anti racist community organizers and educators with national and international reach. It provides a process that emphasizes critical analyses of systemic oppression.
  • The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond was founded in 1980 by Dr. Jim Dunn and Mr. Ronald Chisom, two Black men organizing in their respective communities.
  • In our 40+ years, we’ve trained more than 2 million people through our signature workshop: Undoing Racism®/Community Organizing.
  • Currently, we have more than 100 anti-racist organizer-trainers, and we hold more than 30 workshops a month.
  • Our additional programs include:
    • People’s Institute Youth Agenda: Since the late 80s, we’ve organized young people and held Freedom Schools across the country.
    • Reflection, Assessment & Evaluation: We provide technical assistance, and support to groups and organizations wanting to organize beyond the workshop.
    • Communiversity: a program offered by The People’s Institute that invites community members, students, and scholars to learn, serve, and organize together.

We would be happy to share additional information about the premises behind our work, as well as partners. For media/inquiries, please contact trish@pisab.org.
